How to Install Mozilla Extensions

Firefox and Mozilla

From the web

  1. Open Firefox or Mozilla
  2. Click on the link that contains the installer
  3. The browser will automatically launch the installer
  4. Click 'OK' or 'Install Now'
  5. Exit and reopen browser when installation is complete

From a downloaded XPI file

  1. Open Firefox or Mozilla
  2. Goto: File > Open File
  3. Browse to the downloaded XPI file and click 'Open'
  4. The browser will automatically launch the installer
  5. Click 'OK' or 'Install Now'
  6. Exit and reopen browser when installation is complete

Issues

If you have any issues installing extensions in firefox, check the following things.

  1. For Firefox 0.9
    Goto: Tools > Options > Advanced > Software Update > Allow web sites to install software

    Make sure this is checked if you are trying to install from a site other than mozilla.org.

  2. For Firefox 1.0
    Goto: Tools > Web Features > Allow web sites to intall software.

    Make sure this is checked if you are trying to install from a site other than mozilla.org. If it's checked, click the Allowed Sites button on the right of it and make sure the site you're trying to install from is in the list.

Thunderbird

  1. Download the extension installer (XPI) to your computer
  2. Open Thunderbird
  3. Goto: Tools > Extensions
  4. Click Install
  5. Browse to the downloaded XPI file and click 'Open'
  6. Thunderbird will automatically launch the installer
  7. Click 'OK' or 'Install Now'
  8. Exit and reopen Thunderbird when installation is complete
